RIP MJ

This is really some sad, sad stuff.  RIP, MJ.

And the news coverage is already completely out of control.

On the federal benefits for gay partners issue ...

To quote Seth and Amy - Really?  Really.  Really?

First, how is this even an issue?  A partner is a partner, and partners get benefits.  Period.

Second, I'm pretty sure the government's strategy is "keep ignoring and/or shortchanging gay people, and eventually they won't be gay anymore!"  Yeah, that will definitely work.

I think it's great that Obama is offering benefits to same-sex partners of federal employees.  But why the "stopping just short of full health benefits"?  That's insulting and just ridiculous.  Come on, Obama.  You already got elected; stop trying to play to the conservative voters and just be your awesome liberal self!

Today's excitement

University of Illinois tried to give me $5,700 more money in loans than I need for my one summer class.  I guess it's better than them not giving me enough money, but still ...

Also, my boss approved my time-off request for orientation.  Champaign, here I come!

Twins/Cubs

So, the Twins/Cubs game went on as scheduled yesterday, despite rain in the morning and for half of the game.  Twins won!  This is pretty much the only situation in which I'm okay with the Cubs losing.  There were a LOT of Twins fans there, too - far more than I expected.  Here's some pics:

Most exciting thing that happened today

Not a lot, unfortunately.  I guess free breakfast at work (with enough leftovers to provide free breakfast for tomorrow, too - and a whole tub of Panera cream cheese) is as close as I'm going to get.

In other news, I walked out of the house this morning in my slippers and didn't realize it until I was halfway down the stairs.  I also forgot my Wrigley Field hoodie at work.

At least it's Friday?!

And, Twins/Cubs game tomorrow.  I'm happy no matter who wins!
